One of my photography groups, Digital Dimensions KC, has a Christmas photo outing every year, although I’ve never been able make one in the past. Sometimes it’s on the KC Plaza, which is famous for it’s colorful Christmas lights display, sometimes it’s down at KC’s Crown Center, which has a gigantic Christmas tree and ice skating.
This year, they rented a couple of trolleys to take us around the Plaza – and wouldn’t you know, it was a beautiful (freezing cold) snowy Sunday night in December. I was bundled up to look like a big red Stay-Puft Marshmallow, but hey, I was warm.
I didn’t get a ton of shots, but here are a few. You need to check out my friend, Dara’s, images. She captured some really wonderful shots, which she made even more beautiful with her processing.
There were some wonderful reflections from the wet snow.
I like movement of the streams of traffic lights.
Obviously, I was doing some experimenting!
I’ve added some “circles of light” in PS here. I think it makes it sparkle a bit.
And some more experimenting with moving my lens while shooting. You never know what you’ll get!
This reminds me of a scene out of a film noir, or maybe a Hitchcock movie.
And, although I love the beautiful colors of the lights, it seemed like a nice finish to end up with just some black and white lines on this snowy winter night.
